BURN PERMITS/BURN DAYS
Q. How do I obtain a burn permit, and how much is the fee?
A. Burn permits are issued from Lakeside and CALFIRE fire stations. Please call the administrative office (619-390-2350) for the phone number of the station that issues permits in your area. Burn permits are valid for two-week periods with unlimited renewals and there is no fee. An inspection of the property and what will be burned is required before the permit can be issued.
Q. How do I know if I can burn on any given day?
A. Monday through Friday the permit holder will call 619-390-2350 after 8:15 AM to check to see if permissive burns are allowed for that day. Permit holders will be given a different number for weekends and holidays.
Q. Can the rules on permitted burning be changed?
A. The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) regulates all permitted burning within the fire district boundaries (including setting all of the permissive burning rules). Any suggestions for rule changes would need to be addressed by the APCD, (sdapcd.org). APCD rules include the 14 day permit rule, the requirement for a pre-burn site inspection and which days (and hours) are allowed for burning.
The portion of the year when Cal-Fire issues a “no burn proclamation” is up to Cal-Fire, Monte Vista Ranger Unit,
(calfiresandiego.blogspot.com).
The Lakeside Fire Protection District is not currently part of that decision process and citizen suggestions for changes to the “No Burn Proclamation” declaration (which is usually in place during the summer, fall and early winter) should be addressed to Cal-Fire.
WEED COMPLAINTS/FIRE HAZARDS
Q. My neighbor’s property is a fire hazard, what do I do?
A. Currently the district requires that a district complaint form be filed to report fire hazards. The form is available HERE for your convenience. The district will inspect the property and give notice to the property owner if found to be non-compliant with the local ordinance.

GENERAL QUESTIONS
Q. Why does the fire engine always respond with the ambulance to medical emergencies?
A. Both fire engines and ambulances have paramedics assigned to them; the closest available fire engine and the closest available ambulance are simultaneously dispatched to every medical emergency to provide our citizens with the highest level of care, and as quickly as possible.
Q. A fire engine was in our neighborhood recently. Can I find out why they were there?
A. The reports regarding most incidents of a medical nature are confidential but fire/hazard incidents are public record and a report can be purchased at our administrative offices during regular business hours. Please check our Lakeside Fire District Information Blog for information on the district’s more interesting incidents.
Q. How do I get in touch with a Lakeside Fire Protection District employee?
A. We will pass along messages to our employees for fire district business matters only. Contact our admin office at 619-390-2350 and they will contact the employee as soon as possible
